Walking the Pecho Coast Trail to the Point San Luis Lighthouse offers a unique opportunity for you to access private lands along one of the wildest and most spectacular stretches of the California Coast. The hike is moderately strenuous with uneven terrain (elevation gain of 440ft.). The four mile round trip hike to Point San Luis Lighthouse, one of the most important historical sites in San Luis Obispo County, features beautiful coastline views, discussions of the natural features and history of the area, a tour of the unique Victorian lighthouse and lunch on the light station grounds.
Note: Parts of the trail are strenuous with steep uneven terrain and an elevation gain of 440 feet. So, you should be experienced with and conditioned for strenuous hiking on a narrow trail along a steep high mountainside. You should wear shoes or boots suitable for rugged hiking. Bring lunch, water, sun screen, camera, binoculars and a hat. Wear layered clothing. Prior to the hike, check out the Point San Luis Lighthouse website www.sanluislighthouse.org. A PG&E waiver must be signed at the beginning of the hike.

A Perfect Heathcare System: Can We Design It? Will It Work? Is It Out There?
Today’s major healthcare topic is how to distribute this expensive and scarce resource. Whatever method we choose, the healthcare industry is so large and complex; there will be unintended and unforeseen consequences.
The purpose of this course is to help you discover the complexities of our healthcare system and the many possible unforeseen consequences of the proposals actively being discussed.
The course will be a group discussion/participation composed of four two hour sessions. The first session will consist of introductions and short background information on participants. The class will then take part in a survey to decide the major components of a perfect healthcare system.
Finally, the class will decide on the organization of next three sessions. Class participants will either divide the major components of our healthcare system into three categories, one for each remaining session, and then discuss how the components might be achieved; or, look at the three proposals being actively discussed: single payer, mandatory insurance, and free markets; and see if any one of these will satisfy the components of our perfect healthcare system.

In order to “grow young,” you must have optimism, wonder, curiosity, joy, humor, music, work, play, and learning. Dr. Ronda Beaman will impart these ideas, drawn from her current, award-winning book, You’re Only Young Twice. In it, she combines the sciences of neoteny and evolutionary psychology to offer a definitive guidebook for growing younger, personally and professionally. To Dr. Beaman, the concept of “neoteny” means: “the human species—in body, spirit, feeling, and conduct—is constructed to grow and develop in ways that emphasize rather than minimize childhood traits.”
In this motivating course you will hear about how the practice of neotenous behaviors is a way to grow young, from the inside out. You will radically change how you feel about aging, and enhance how you feel about LIFE 2.0. In other words, you will leave with a new definition of what is possible for the second half of your life. You will learn to re-engage your creativity, wonder, humor, joy, and sense of purpose.
Faculty: Ronda Beaman, Ed.D. is President of Second Wind, Inc. and of PEAKK Learning®, a global research and consulting firm--the world’s leader in assessing and strengthening human resilience within organizations. She also serves on the faculty of Cal Poly’s Graduate School of Business and on the Board of Directors for the National Pay It Forward Foundation.

Join other OLLI members for an exciting day of learning and fun at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum! OLLI has the unique opportunity of a private, docent-escorted tour that will include many new and exciting exhibits. Come prepared to explore President Reagan’s life as a young man and as a Hollywood movie star. Visit an exact replica of the Oval Office, just as it looked during Reagan’s presidency; and see artifacts from Rancho del Cielo, President and Mrs. Reagan’s ranch and view the new Air Force One Pavilion which celebrates President Reagan’s leadership role and vision in ending the Cold War.
In addition, your tour will walk the interior of the “Flying White House” (the Boeing 707), which served seven United States presidents. Its location on a hilltop overlooking the Pacific Ocean makes the viewing even more exciting. While on the tour, you will be able to pay your respects to Ronald Reagan, our 40th President at his memorial site.
Note: You may bring snacks for the trip and a bottle of water is recommended. Bring money for the coffee and lunch stops.
Wear layered clothing and comfortable walking shoes, and bring a jacket or sweater, as you will be outside for a short part of the tour, where the view is beautiful and not to be missed.
Faculty: David L. Maislen has an Executive MBA in Management from the Claremont Graduate School.
